Associate Professor Mustafa Özcan from the Kocaeli University Faculty of Technology organized a seminar focused on "Electricity Generation through Renewable Energy Resources." During the event, the critical importance of renewable energy was highlighted, specifically focusing on the vital role these sources play in the global fight against climate change.
The seminar opened with a discussion on global warming and the impact of greenhouse gases, providing a detailed explanation of the human activities that drive their emission. While drawing attention to the escalating effects of the climate crisis, the presentation also explored practical actions for reducing greenhouse gas levels and various strategies for decarbonization.
Special emphasis was placed on the significance of wind, solar, hydroelectric, biomass, wave, and tidal energy in curbing emissions. The discussion reinforced that replacing fossil fuels with renewable energy is a critical step in addressing climate change, using clear examples to demonstrate how these sources are integrated into electricity production. Furthermore, the session assessed Turkey’s current renewable energy landscape and its progress in energy transition, highlighting the country's potential in the field. The seminar concluded by stressing that decarbonization is not only essential for environmental protection but is also a cornerstone of economic and social sustainability.
