Under the coordination of Sakarya University and in partnership with Kocaeli University, Düzce University, and the Sakarya Governorship, the seventh "Researchers at School" event was held at Başiskele Şehit Yunus Emre Ezer Middle School. This event is part of the "Science & Future – The Science For Stronger Societies" Horizon Europe project, which also involves the Düzce Governorship, the Kocaeli Provincial Directorate of National Education, and VakıfBank as stakeholders.
The program, designed to enhance the awareness of primary and secondary school students regarding climate change, natural disasters, and resilient cities, was carried out with the contributions of Kocaeli University academics. Students showed significant interest in the presentations and workshops titled "Do You Know Your Family's Carbon Footprint?" and "The Key to Sustainability through the Right Words and Visuals: The Greatest Power in Your Hands."
The event opened with a speech by the Sustainability Office Coordinator, Prof. Dr. Sevil Veli, and continued with presentations by Associate Professors Simge Çankaya and Şenay Çetin Doğruparmak from the Department of Environmental Engineering on calculating and understanding family carbon footprints. Following these sessions, Associate Professor Aysel Çetinkaya from the Faculty of Communication provided the students with detailed information on the concepts of recycling and upcycling, emphasizing their roles in environmental preservation.
