The introductory meeting of the Horizon Europe project called SCIENCE&FUTURE, coordinated by Sakarya University, was held with the participation of all project partners and participating organizations.
The introductory meeting of the Horizon Europe project called SCIENCE&FUTURE, coordinated by Sakarya University, in partnership with Kocaeli University, Düzce University, Sakarya Governorship and with the participation of Düzce Governorship, Kocaeli Provincial Directorate of National Education and VakıfBank, was held on September 23, hosted by Sakarya University.
The meeting was attended by Sakarya University Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. Mehmet Barış Horzum and Prof. Dr. Özer Köseoğlu, project coordinator and Research Dean Prof. Dr. Mehmet Emiroğlu, Kocaeli University Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. Elif Öğüt, Düzce University Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. Ali Öztürk and Research Dean Prof. Dr. Emine Tekin, VakıfBank R&D, Marketing and Infrastructure Application Development Director Deniz Yılmaz and Sustainable Projects IT Consultant Dr. Yücel Güllüce, Sakarya Governorship EU and Foreign Relations Specialist Bünyamin Göl, Kocaeli Provincial Directorate of National Education R&D Unit Officer Mustafa Talha Soysal and SAU Research Deanship project team participated.
"We Will Be More Prepared for Environmental Problems"
Speaking at the opening of the meeting, Prof. Dr. Horzum emphasized that the project aims not only to disseminate scientific knowledge but also to make our society more prepared for the environmental challenges we will face in the future. Thanking the entire team in the preparation and implementation of this project, Prof. Dr. Horzum stated that they will continue to work and create areas of cooperation to develop the research ecosystem in our region and country in the future. Project coordinator Prof. Dr. Emiroğlu emphasized that this project aims to create awareness about climate change and natural disasters, which are the common problems of all partners and our country, and that the joint work we will do in all our institutions will increase awareness of natural disasters in individuals of all age groups.
"Sustainability Will Be One of Our Basic Tools"
Speaking at the meeting, Prof. Dr. Öğüt stated that they, as Kocaeli University, are aware of the importance of sustainability and that they will contribute to the development of the understanding of sustainability in the fight against climate change in this process. Düzce University Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Öztürk emphasized that it is difficult to get grant support from the EU in such a competitive environment, but that a great job has been accomplished with this project.
"We Will Provide Public Support for Students to Meet with Science"
Speaking on behalf of the Sakarya Governorship, Bünyamin Göl stated that they will provide public support for students to meet with science, and added that they will cooperate with all stakeholders to bring the message the project wants to convey to all citizens. Mustafa Talha Soysal from Kocaeli Provincial Directorate of National Education also said that "strengthening our networks as all partners to increase public awareness, solving common problems and raising awareness of young people about environmental problems will contribute to our project."
"We Support the Understanding of Sustainability as VakıfBank"
Emphasizing that the world and Turkey are facing significant challenges in terms of climate change and natural disasters, VakıfBank R&D, Marketing and Infrastructure Application Development President Deniz Yılmaz conveyed that thinking globally and acting locally is valuable in producing solutions to problems and raising public awareness with this project. Stating that they attach importance to the understanding of sustainability as VakıfBank, Yılmaz said, "With this project, we have a great mission in informing the public about common problems and we will contribute to the development of the understanding of sustainability for citizens of all ages during the project."
The First European Researchers' Night Events of the Project Will Take Place on September 27
Within the scope of the project, seminars, presentations and scientific discussions will be held in parallel sessions within the scope of the European Researchers' Night, which will start simultaneously on the campuses of each partner institution. Workshops and experimental studies will also be held in a repetitive format at the times specified in the program.
