In a seminar titled "Electricity Generation from Renewable Energy Sources," Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mustafa Özcan, a faculty member of the Department of Energy Systems Engineering at Kocaeli University's Faculty of Technology, highlighted the vital importance of renewable energy and its role in the fight against climate change. The session began by addressing the impacts of global warming and greenhouse gases, followed by a detailed explanation of the human activities that contribute to these emissions. While drawing attention to the escalating effects of the climate crisis, the discussion focused on decarbonization strategies and specific actions that can be taken to reduce greenhouse gas concentrations.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mustafa Özcan emphasized the necessity of renewable energy types—such as wind, solar, hydroelectric, biomass, wave, and tidal energy—in curbing greenhouse gas emissions. He underscored the critical importance of transitioning from fossil fuels to renewable alternatives as a primary strategy for climate action. Throughout the seminar, the practical applications of these energy sources in electricity generation were clearly conveyed to the participants through various illustrative examples.
